Join us as Canton once again honors area service men and service women who have served or who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.

This special event features: key note speaker Michael Harris, President of the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America; special recognition of Tom Houdek, WWII Veteran and POW; the Workmen Elementary Choir directed by Keri L. Mueller; the Willow Run “Tribute” Rosie the Riveter Troupe; and the Harmony Motown Chorus. Donations to the VA Ann Arbor Health System will also be accepted. (Suggested items include items for snack packs such as granola bars, portable meal kits and cracker packs; sweat pants, zip up hoodies, short sleeved colored tees in sizes M-5XL and white tees in sizes 2XL and up; and large bottles of body wash, shampoo, and conditioner). November Gallery@VT Exhibit featuring the Ann Arbor Fiber Arts Guild.
Originally founded in 1956 as a club for weavers, the Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild (AAFG) provides opportunities for fiber artists to meet and exchange ideas, and to learn about fiber art through lectures and workshops.

2019 Fine Arts Exhibition Winners

On October 4th, 2019 Artists, friends, family, and patrons met to celebrate the chosen pieces for the 27th Annual Canton Fine Arts Awards and the artists who created them.  The awards program Masters of Ceremony were Pat Williams, Canton Township Supervisor and Darian Moore, Canton Commission for Culture, Arts & Heritage Chair. Juror, Kay Masini, gave a passionate speech on the jury process and why she chose the nine winners from the 40 works represented.

Wine & Weave Workshop

Join us for a fun evening and create your own piece of fiber art in your our beautiful Gallery! During this fun workshop, we’ll learn the basics of hand weaving, while sipping a glass of wine. This 3-hour class will go beyond plain weave, and students will learn soumak, clasped weft, and knotting techniques. By the end of the workshop you will have a small woven art piece to take home! No experience necessary. This class is appropriate for ages 21 and over. All supplies and materials will be provided. One wine ticket included per registration. Limited space available, so register online today!  Fee: $20

Better Than Ever Productions

This beautiful memory play delightfully recalls the last time the Hines family gathered at their retreat in the Poconos. The summer of 1953 brings romantic entanglements that coalesce one idyllic afternoon. Burt Hines, mid-50’s and convalescing from a second heart attack, eagerly anticipates the arrival of his ex-wife he still loves. Daughter Josie has just broken her engagement to a Harvard law student and pines for his buddy Ray, an aspiring writer with whom she once had a brief fling. Clemma, the African American housekeeper at the center of the action, casts and astute eye on the complications while facing her own unresolved past.  Approximate run time: 2 hrs. Rated PG.  Tickets: $16-$18

Imani Winds with Tian Tian, Pianist

Over a 20-plus year career, Grammy nominated quintet Imani Winds has discovered what audiences value most from their concerts: a sense of connection - with the music, the performers, the composers, the artistry and beyond. Extolled by the Philadelphia Inquirer as “what triumph sounds like”, Imani Winds has created a distinct presence in the classical music world through its dynamic playing, culturally relevant programming, virtuosic collaborations and inspirational outreach programs. A faculty member at the Oakland University School of Music, Theatre and Dance, pianist Tian Tian has presented solo concerts across the US, Canada and China. She has appeared in music festivals such as Piano Texas, the Gilmore Festival, and Summer Courses with Arie Vardi (Germany). Avid chamber musician, Tian has performed with the Juilliard Quartet and toured in the US, China, and Korea as a member of the Studzinsky Trio. Approximate run time: 2 hrs. Tickets: $10-$45

Spotlight Players

Based on a true story, watch as our leading ladies convince their local Women’s Institute to embark on a novel fundraiser for a good cause, a new sofa for the waiting room at the local hospital. After seeing a “girlie” calendar in a local shop they decide to pose for an ‘alternative calendar’ discreetly posing nude in the hopes of raising that additional cash. As the story unfolds we see how this puts pressure on the ladies in different ways and escalates into something bigger than they ever imagined involving far more than their local Women’s Institute. During the Inclusive Sensory Sensitive Movie showings the sound system will be turned down, and the house lights up to create a comfortable environment for all to enjoy. These reduced capacity showings allow for more space where moviegoers can walk around, sing, shout, dance, clap and talk. Moviegoers are welcome to bring any fidget devices or comfort items from home. A limited number of headphones, weighted blankets and fidget devices will be available for check out during your visit.
