“Home” a collection of paintings and mixed media by Artist Sharlene Welton.

Artist Bio: Sharlene Welton's art story is rooted in her childhood. As a youth, her mother’s drawings of women and fashion made a lasting impression. And so it was while growing up in Michigan with seven siblings that drawing and painting made its way into her heart and head.

A leap into the future put Sharlene at Eastern Michigan University where she augmented a teaching degree with art classes. For 21 years she taught young children first and then art in the public schools.

Sharlene primarily paints using both brushes and palette knives as her tools – however she also likes to explore using a variety of everyday objects as well.
Exhibition Dates: Now through October 1, 2017
Artist Reception: September 6, 7-9 p.m. (Free and Open to the Public)

Spotlight Players

A young teacher on the first day of work begins to rehearse teaching techniques. The teacher’s thoughts begin to take life. The teacher turns on the TV and is drawn into Schoolhouse Rock! The teacher tries to look over the lesson plan. George and company assure the teacher that, with their help, it will be as easy as one, two, ‘Three Is a Magic Number’. This leads right into ‘Unpack Your Adjective’. The teacher pleads that it is necessary to teach other subjects like Social Studies and the helpers are right there for him with ‘Just a Bill’. Shulie reminds the teacher that ‘The Preamble’ was another shining example of the series’ educational value. The company moves into a rousing ‘Circulation’, detaining the circulatory system through a dance craze. Then it’s back to grammar with one of the favorites of the show ‘Conjunction Junction’. Shulie’s interest is sparked as she sings ‘Interplanet Janet’. The company feels that they have done their duty, and the teacher is ready to teach!
