June 23, 2015, Canton, MI – The Canton Police and Fire Departments responded to 9-1-1 call on Friday, June 19, at approximately 8 p.m., for shots fired inside an apartment on the 8000 block of Nectar Drive, with one female injured. Police and fire units arrived on scene to find a 40-year old female victim suffering from multiple gun shots to her leg. The victim was transported by paramedics to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Police officers and detectives immediately began their investigation, with witnesses stating a physical altercation had occurred between the victim and the suspect inside the residence of a mutual friend, immediately prior to the shots being fired. The female suspect fled the scene, and was arrested several hours later by police.

The suspect, 31-year old Jnaya Shanell Booker, of Detroit, was arraigned yesterday in 35th District Court on the following charges related to the incident:

• Discharge of firearm in a building causing serious impairment, a 20-year felony
• Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a 10-year felony
• Assault with a dangerous weapon, a 4-year felony
• Felony firearm, (a felony sentencing enhancement charge)

Judge Ronald Lowe set Booker’s bond at $500,000 cash, with a preliminary exam date of July 6, 2015, at 35th District Court, 660 Plymouth Road, in Plymouth.

The victim remains hospitalized at this time. Information on her condition is not being released to the public.
