Area residents with disabilities and their families are invited to attend Community Connection Day for a unique opportunity to get to know Canton Public Safety first responders during this free event, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018. This annual event will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, in Canton, MI.
Community Connection Day is intended to dispel fears and myths special populations may associate with lights, sirens, and uniformed public safety personnel. The event will be very interactive and hands-on, allowing attendees the opportunity to look/sit in police and fire vehicles, as well as talk with police officers and firefighters. The intent is to build a trust and comfort level for special populations when seeking out or receiving assistance from first responders. In return, Public Safety personnel will also gain insight into the needs and concerns of this special population for potential future interactions.
No registration is required to attend this event, which is presented in partnership with Canton Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation, Canton Public Safety, and Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. The event will feature fun giveaways and special activities provided by: Michigan Child ID; Sensory-Friendly Story Time, presented by the Canton Public Library at noon; Adaptive Yoga with Chris at 1 p.m.; and Adaptive Gymnastics Tumble, presented by Michigan Academy of Gymnastics at 1:30 p.m.
This event is made possible because of the generous sponsor support from Building Bridges Therapy Center.
